Bite of East Omaha Bus Tour
When: November 6 to December 4, 2018
Where: Various Locations
Omaha, NE

Travel around the city on a themed culinary journey! Each tour itinerary changes, as there are too many wonderful places to try to adhere to a single route. Parking will be readily available at the designated meeting spot, and the bus will return to the starting location at the end of the tour.

Bite of Omaha Tour offers a mix of everything. Stops may include any of the following: upscale culinary artistry, hearty pub fare, off the beaten path ethnic eateries, or one-of-a kind mom and pop long-standing favorites.

Historic Home Tour and Boutique

Gather with family and friends to visit Omaha’s beautiful historical buildings, shop in the warmth and beauty of the treasured Joslyn Castle, and be our guest as we host our Historic Home Tour & Boutique Saturday, November 10th through Sunday, November 11th. This event is quite a showcase for the Castle and its mission in Omaha, not only drawing new faces to the Castle itself, but promoting the preservation of other historic homes.

The Historic Home Tour and Boutique will run from 10:00am until 4:00pm on Saturday, November 10th and on Sunday, November 11th from 11:00am until 4:00pm. In addition to the Castle, the tour features four historic properties in the area: the Fogarty home, both Janicek homes, and St. Barnabas Catholic Church.

Veterans Day Program and Lunch

The Museum honors America’s military veterans with a special program and lunch on Veteran’s Day. The program includes a free lunch and non-Veterans pay admission the day of the event. Veterans and active military are granted free admission to the Museum as appreciation for their service. This lunch program features posting of the colors and a keynote speaker. Veterans are encouraged to attend this event in uniform.

A family-friendly festival of invention, creativity and resourcefulness. This event is part science fair and part something entirely new! Makers, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, and vintage vendors, crafters, and artisans all come to show off or sell what they have made.

Maker and vendor booths will be nestled around our historic aircraft. Find your perfect gift for the holidays with this one-of-a-kind indoor maker festival!

These Makers transform their craft – A piano made into a table, DROIDS!, and glass blowing.

Tree Lighting Parade and Santa’s Arrival
When: November 21, 2018
Where: Shadow Lake Towne Center

Led by the Papillion-La Vista Titan Marching Band, Santa arrives to light the Shadow Lake Towne Center Christmas Tree! Catch a holiday performance from the BJSA Bomber Cheerleaders and see your favorite storybook and holiday characters, such as the Grinch riding the Papillion Fire Department’s Truck!

Free jingle bells, provided by Shadow Lake, are distributed to the kids to help “ring in” Santa to Center Court.

Sip on complimentary Hot Chocolate provided by Cobalt Credit Union!**Will be set up near Christopher and Banks**

After the parade, Santa and Characters will be available on Main Street for photos and there will be free Carriage Rides boarding by Carhartt.

Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Christmas at Union Station festivities begin with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Enjoy loads of entertainment including cookie decorating and holiday crafts at the David M. Mangelsen’s Craft Corner, live music, plus Santa himself! All the good tidings and cheer lead up to the signature tradition of the night: the community countdown to lighting the region’s largest indoor Christmas tree!

Holiday Poinsettia Show
When: November 23 – January 6, 2019
Where: Lauritzen Gardens

Thousands of poinsettias bursting with rich, vibrant color fill the floral display hall in a glowing tribute to the holidays during the spectacular holiday poinsettia show. In the center of it all, a magnificent and majestic 20-foot-tall poinsettia tree stands tall. Surrounded by a cascade of twinkling white lights, glittering ornaments and the whir and whistle of model garden trains, this show evokes the warmest greetings of goodwill and cheer.

More than 5000 poinsettias in 25 different varieties were grown for the 2017 display. See varieties of multi-hued, deep red, sparkling white and speckled poinsettias that vary in hue, texture, height and bloom time. Varieties will be replaced as needed to provide an ever-changing display.

To build the holiday ambience, model garden trains will whir and whistle around dozens of miniature Omaha-area landmarks, such as the First National Tower, Woodmen Tower, Union Pacific’s headquarters, the Rose Theater and numerous Old Market buildings.
