Holiday Lights Festival: Fireworks Spectacular

Rescheduled from New Year’s Eve due to weather. This last signature event of the 2017 Holiday Lights Festival will begin at the family-friendly hour of 7pm. The show will feature a mesmerizing display of fireworks designed by J&M Displays and choreographed to a special musical accompaniment broadcast on STAR 104.5.

Indoor Air Show

The Indoor Air Show brings the fun and excitement of an air show inside with radio-controlled (R/C) models. Starting at 10:00 AM, model pilots will demonstrate all of the loops, flips, and barrel rolls in the museum’s climate-controlled Durham Restoration Hangar. There will be “learn to fly” safety demonstration and educational booths. The event is from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and is included as part of paid admission. The Museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
Holiday Lights Festival: NRG Ice Rink in the Capitol District
When: Now through February 14th, 2018

The outdoor ice rink, an iconic and integral part of Shine the Light on Hunger, has moved to its new and permanent location at the NRG Energy Ice Rink in The Capitol District at 10th Street and Capitol Avenue. The rink – with a natural water-ice surface – opens November 21 and runs through February 14, providing the public with an opportunity to do good while having fun. Admission with skate rental is $8 (plus tax), a portion of which will go to Food Bank for the Heartland.
The Art of Brick Exhibition

The Art of the Brick is a global touring exhibition rated by CNN as one of the world’s “Must See Exhibitions.” These are the first art exhibitions to focus exclusively on the use of LEGO® bricks as an art medium and artist Nathan Sawaya has taken it to new heights.
This award-winning artist has multiple unique exhibitions created solely from standard LEGO bricks. Each show has countless colorful LEGO pieces which Sawaya has transformed into whimsical and awe-inspiring creations.
