As home builders in Omaha, we’ve seen trends come and go. Bathrooms are pretty standard rooms, things don’t really change all that much in their design. However, lately we’ve been seeing some new bathrooms trends emerge and we’re pretty excited about them. Like many rooms in the house, homeowners are looking to design a home that is relaxing, comforting and welcoming. The bathroom is no exception anymore. Bathrooms are getting bigger and they are becoming more spa-like with luxury features that have become more affordable in recent years. 

Top Bathroom Trends

Appliances – Depending on the size your bathroom, appliances are popping up for convenience sake. Coffee stations, stereo systems, even small refrigerators are becoming popular in bathroom design. Towel warmers and temperature controlled medicine cabinets are making their way into mainstream bathrooms now. 

Designed to Relax – Decor in the bathrooms has gone neutral. Neutral tones on walls and window treatments provide a spa-like atmosphere homeowners enjoy. Muted colors will make the room feel less harsh with all it’s porcelain. Soft window treatments, antique furnishings such as framed mirrors and light fixtures can make even the smallest of bathroom feel spacious yet cozy. 

Music/Media – From speaker equipped shower heads to full blown sound systems, today’s bathrooms are dialed in. Listen to your favorite aria while getting ready for work or watch the news, media is available in the today’s bathroom.

Bold use of Color – Now that you’ve designed your bathroom to be calming, a little pop of color can bring be inspiring and uplifting. Yellows, oranges and reds make wonderful pops of color in the bathroom. 

Storage – You can never have enough storage space in the bathroom. Use vertical space for cabinetry going all up the wall. Place less used items in the top shelves. If cabinetry isn’t an option utilize shelving or furniture such as old wardrobes for beautiful storage options.

Aging in Place Considerations – Curbless showers and grab bars generously places around the room will be appreciated down the line and when reselling. eliminate the free standing tub and just go with a no-threshold shower. It’s easier to get in and out of and it’s much easier to clean. It also makes the room appear larger than it really is, and the clean lines make it feel more neat and tidy, less cluttered.

In Floor Heat – What used to be considered a luxury that only a few could afford has now become mainstream. In floor heating is that little bit of affordable luxury that will get your day off to a wonderful, and warm, start. 

Multiple Showerheads – Why have just one when you can have many. Turn your morning routine into a cascading waterfall. 

Fire – More and more homeowners are opting to incorporate a fireplace into their bathroom design. If you have the space, go for it. It’s a source of heat and provides a relaxing atmosphere to leave the day behind. 

Pet Friendly – More and more homeowners are creating pet friendly bathrooms. While it might seems luxurious, it’s usually more practical. Adding a lower level hand held shower is not only great for bathing Fido, it’s helpful for those who need to sit while showering.Â
